Sale of printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter Whoever sells or offers for sale any printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter, knowing that it contains such matter, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. Example: A person who sells or offers for sale any printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter, knowing that it contains such matter, may be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. In a real FIR or trial, investigators must show that the facts match the ingredients of the offence (intent, act, and other elements as applicable) under Section 502. Chapter context: defamation.
