Attempt to commit suicide Whoever attempts to commit suicide and does any act towards the commission of such offence, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine, or with both. [Chapter 16: offences affecting the human body]

Example: A person who attempts to commit suicide and does any act towards the commission of such offence, may be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine, or with both. In a real FIR or trial, investigators must show that the facts match the ingredients of the offence (intent, act, and other elements as applicable) under Section 309.
